Nikolaj Krastev je bolgarski novinar in analitik z dolgoletnimi izkušnjami v mednarodnem novinarstvu. Kariero je začel na Bolgarskem nacionalnem radiu leta 1992. Leta 2019 je kratek čas opravljal funkcijo odgovornega urednika prvega programa Bolgarskega nacionalnega radia – “Horizont”.
Krastev je poročal o razpadu SFRJ in bil leta 2001 posebni poročevalec iz Republike Makedonije. Leta 1999 je spremljal vojaško operacijo na Kosovu ter humanitarno krizo, ki je nastala po izgonu kosovskih Albancev v Makedonijo in Albanijo. Med leti 2003 in 2012 je vodil dopisništvo Bolgarskega radia v Beogradu ter poročal o dogajanju v državah Zahodnega Balkana. Pokrival je tudi prvo predsedovanje Slovenije Svetu EU leta 2008 ter referendum v Črni gori leta 2006, s katerim se je ta odločila za samostojnost in izstop iz skupne države s Srbijo.
Po vrnitvi v Bolgarijo je bil leta 2013 posebni poročevalec iz Turčije, kjer je spremljal proteste proti takratnemu premierju Recepu Tayyipu Erdoganu. Kasneje je pokrival dogodke v Turčiji, Severni Makedoniji in drugih državah Zahodnega Balkana ter poslovne forume v Rusiji. Od leta 2015 do 2017 je vodil dopisništvo Bolgarskega nacionalnega radia v Moskvi, kjer je bil odgovoren za Rusijo, postsovjetske republike in južni Kavkaz.
V letih 2017–2019 je vodil zunanjo politično oddajo na Bloomberg TV Bulgaria, nato pa nadaljeval kariero na Bolgarski nacionalni televiziji, kjer se osredotoča na teme, povezane s postsovjetskim prostorom. Krastev je priznan analitik v bolgarskih medijih, kjer obravnava vprašanja Zahodnega Balkana, Črnega morja in Turčije.
Nikolai Krastev is a Bulgarian journalist and analyst with many years of experience in international journalism. He started his career at Bulgarian National Radio in 1992. In 2019, he briefly held the position of Editor-in-Chief of Bulgarian National Radio’s first programme – “Horizon”.
Krastev covered the break-up of the SFRY and was Special Rapporteur from the Republic of Macedonia in 2001. In 1999, he covered the military operation in Kosovo and the humanitarian crisis that followed the expulsion of Kosovo Albanians to Macedonia and Albania. From 2003 to 2012, he was the head of the correspondence of the Bulgarian Radio in Belgrade, covering developments in the Western Balkans. He also covered Slovenia’s first Presidency of the EU Council in 2008 and the 2006 referendum in Montenegro, which decided to become independent and leave the common state with Serbia.
After returning to Bulgaria in 2013, he was Special Rapporteur from Turkey, where he monitored the protests against then Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He later covered events in Turkey, North Macedonia and other Western Balkan countries, as well as business forums in Russia. From 2015 to 2017, he was the head of Bulgarian National Radio’s correspondence in Moscow, covering Russia, the post-Soviet republics and the South Caucasus.
In 2017-2019, he hosted a foreign policy show on Bloomberg TV Bulgaria, before continuing his career at Bulgarian National Television, where he focuses on issues related to the post-Soviet space. Krastev is a renowned analyst in the Bulgarian media, covering the Western Balkans, the Black Sea and Turkey.
