Gorenjski glas has also long been closely linked to Austrian Carinthia and the Slovenian minority living there. For many years, their contributor Jože Košnjek has been writing a sub-list “Slovenians Abroad” about events and people in Carinthia; they are approaching the thousandth part of the sub-list. The good cooperation with the local media across the border and especially with the Mohorjeva družba in Klagenfurt has resulted in the publication of joint newspapers on both sides of the border, Sosed/Nachbar and Karavanke. Both projects were supported by the European Territorial Programme – Interreg, and Karavanke will continue to be published after the expiry of the cross-border Smart Tourist project. The latest joint project with Mohorjeva družba, in which the Škofja Loka People’s University also participates, is the Lingua project, which is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Interreg Slovenia-Austria Programme 2021-2027. It is aimed at strengthening the identity of the region and improving intercultural linguistic competence, as well as presenting the importance of dialects and their preservation.
On the anniversary of the catastrophic floods, the worst natural disaster in the history of independent Slovenia, which also caused enormous material damage in Gorenjska, Radio Sora systematically focused on informing listeners about the progress of the rehabilitation and the work already carried out. Most of the roads have been rebuilt, and with a special series of field broadcasts one year after the water storm, the radio has highlighted a more personal view of the flood victims whose lives have been changed by the water storm. Together, they have gathered the personal stories of flood victims who were affected by the natural disaster in different ways. They have carefully selected interviewees, both those living directly along the Sora River and those affected by landslides, from different generations and professions. As this is a topic of great public interest, the radio broadcasts have also been reinforced by publications on other online communication platforms, bringing them closer to all generations. The audio broadcasts were accompanied by video contributions, which were subtitled to bring them closer to the vulnerable group of the hard of hearing. The broadcasts and all the contributions that rounded up the pre- and post-announcements had an overwhelming response.
